Background:
Dr. Dwelle grew up in the Central Valley of California and moved east for his medical training. After meeting his wife in New York, the family decided to return to Monterey in 2002. Dr. Dwelle’s wife is a family practice doctor who works in the same building.

Why he chose pediatrics:
“As a child, I really liked my pediatrician. I’d always liked science, but couldn’t stand lab work. I really enjoy working with people and one of my strengths is working with concerned parents. Working with kids is special: no matter what the situation, you almost never have a visit where you don’t smile at least once.”

How he makes kids feel comfortable:
“I’m interested in new techniques to help kids feel comfortable and decrease pain. That’s why we have involved a child life specialist here at the office. My personal thing with kids is to get them to smile. I get down to their level, give them books. I’m also pretty good at listening to patients and picking up on anything they’re not saying.”

How he helps parents;
“I try to engage them in the process of making decisions about the course of treatment and giving them all the information they need to decide. I also use personal email with parents, which is very convenient for them.”
